Gita boys win cricket U-12 title

KUCHING: SK Gita 2 captured the Sarawak Schools Sports Council (MSS Sarawak) U-12 cricket title for the first time when they beat SK Tabuan in the final held at SK Gita 2 field.

Batting first, SK Gita 2 scored 57 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 15 overs.

They passed the score for the loss of eight wickets while Rolneldo Munap bowled well to claim three wickets for 20 runs.

SK Tabuan’s Arfan Firdaus was the team’s best performer after he claimed three wickets for 15 runs.

In the semi-finals, SK Gita 2 defeated SK Buntal by four wickets while SK Tabuan beat SK Tabuan Hilir by five wickets.

The competition organised by Kuching District Education Department was jointly held at SK Gita 2 and SK Tabuan from Feb 14-17.

Kuching District Education Department representative Kamariah Syed closed the event.

Also present were Sarawak Cricket Association (SCA) president Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamad, SK Gita 2 headmaster Abdul Latip and Samarahan District Education Department’s representative Wan Zalmi.

Meanwhile, SCA headcoach Chew Pok Cheong, together with MSS Sarawak technical chairman, will shortlist 20 players for the selection trial to pick the best players for the MSSM cricket tournament in Negeri Sembilan from Mar 14 to 19.
